AFCN from ARIJ, organised the sixth and last webinar of SA7 project this year, on May 22, 2023 under the title “Live Demo: What Fact-Checkers and Journalists need to know about the INVID tool?”, with the participation of more than 200 participants via Zoom and 800 viewers on Facebook, with the trainer Denis Teyssou, the managing Agence France-Presse (AFP) Medialab R&D and the founder and maker of the INVID verification plugin.
The SA7 project is part of the Qarib program, implemented by the French Media Development Agency (CFI) and funded by the French Development Agency (AFD).
Moderated by Samya Ayish, ARIJ communication manager, AFCN announced in the beginning of the webinar the Arabic version of INVID tool, that will be available during June after months of work done in collaboration between AFCN and AFP team.
In a two-hour interactive session, the trainer provided important tips to the fact-checkers on the optimal use of the INVID tool that is used by many fact-checkers around the world and examples of his work in the Arab region on how to verify information using the tool.
The trainer emphasised the importance of reverse search in more than one search engine to analyse the accuracy of images or videos spread on social media platforms, and the “Keyframes” feature that divide the video to multiple images to search for the original publisher, and the “Magnifier” feature to provide a magnifying lens and a photo editor to help in examining an image thoroughly.
In addition to that, the trainer mentioned that most features of the INVID tool are free and not required creating an account.
AFCN is also supporting Arab fact-checkers to get access to INVID advanced tools that will support their efforts and work in fighting mis/disinformation.
It is worth mentioning that the SA7 project aims to enhance the best practices, methodologies and tools for fact-checking in the Arab region, specifically in 4 countries facing political, economic and security challenges where the public confidence is declining in the media: Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine and Iraq.
